Program annual review for TAFE and Higher Education coursework programs procedure

Intent

To provide a systematic review of program quality, relevance and viability that attests to the educational design, implementation and currency of RMIT programs, and informs School, Portfolio and university planning.

Scope

All RMIT award coursework programs, onshore, offshore and all modes of delivery, whether offered directly by RMIT or in partnership with other providers.

1. PAR initiation

1.1.1. Establish schedule for the year and notify relevant stakeholders. Refer to the Program Annual Review schedule.

1.1.2. Update templates and all online information.

1.1.3. Arrange professional development to assist with interpretation of data.

1.1.4. Book rooms, appointments and video conference links for DVC Academic review meetings with each college, and offshore campuses and partners, where required.

2. Program performance data

2.1. Assemble data sets for on-shore and off-shore programs on the university indicators used to measure performance of programs across all locations and modes of delivery: Program annual review

Policy and Planning

2.2. Distribute data sets on the university indicators used to measure program performance to Program Managers.

School Manager, or equivalent

3. Review within schools

3.1.1. Analyse program level data sets against quality, viability, relevance and strategic settings to contribute to profile and PAR decisions:

  • Determining potential changes in program load by fund source
  • Identifying new program development options and areas for contraction
  • Current program improvement activities

3.1.2. Complete the PAR template identifying key issues and trends and an action plan and submit to the Head of School for review.

Program Manager

3.2.1. Review and update previous school action plans.

3.2.2. Develop an aggregate school report: Program Annual Review - School template (DOC 35.8 KB, 4p)

3.2.3. Submit aggregate school report, program level reports and updated action plans to the college Deputy PVC, Learning and Teaching, to discuss key issues, trends, implications for profile and any recommendations for improvement.

3.2.4. Final reports and data should be managed in accordance with the Records management policy.

4. Review within colleges

4.1. Send out relevant documentation to attendees of meeting with DVC Academic.

Learning and Teaching Unit

4.2. College PVC and Deputy PVC, Learning and Teaching meet with each school to identify learning and teaching profile and resources improvement initiatives to be included in school or college plans; or referred for broader action at the university level. Participants to include:

  • PVC (chair)

    • Director, Planning and Resources
    • Dean/Head of School
    • Deputy HoS/Dean, Learning and Teaching from relevant school
    • Representative from offshore campuses and partners via video conference, where required

4.3.1. Review and update previous college action report.

4.3.2. Develop college level PAR reports and future action plan:

6. Final reports and action plans

6.1. Identify and develop actions of schools, colleges and service areas into a report and send to those responsible.

6.1.2. Submit service action plans to the Academic Resources and Infrastructure Advisory Group: Service area actions template (DOC 241 KB, 3p)

Learning and Teaching Unit

6.2. Write and present University wide and college reports for discussion at VCE.

Dean, Learning and Teaching

6.3.1. Write and present University-wide report, including college summary reports for discussion at Academic Board.

6.3.2. Write a brief report of the strategic conversation at Academic Board.

7. Services action plan updates

7.1. Submit updated action plan reports to Academic Resources and Infrastructure Advisory Group and Learning and Teaching Unit.
