Issues with Blackboard’s inline document viewer

RMIT students and staff may experience issues with Blackboard’s inline document viewer. This issue is usually visible when students upload an assignment or when teaching staff grade assignment in Grade Centre.

RMIT students and staff may experience issues with Blackboard’s inline document viewer that causes an uploaded assignment to display as blank or partially blank within Blackboard.

This issue is usually visible when students upload an assignment or when teaching staff grade an assignment in Grade Centre.

Students may be presented with a blank / partially blank document through the inline document viewer or the full name of the assignment file with message of ‘This file is being converted. The estimated waiting time is X seconds’’

Staff may be presented with a blank / partially blank document through the inline document viewer or may not be able to download a ‘valid’ version of the student’s assignment

Whilst the relevant vendors work through this issue we are recommending that students who experience the above issues utilise the following steps as a workaround:

If the document is a .ppt/.pptx or .doc/.docx, saving the document as a PDF will often resolve inline document viewer issues.

Test your document by uploading at Crocodoc to identify if there's any errors https://crocodoc.com/see-it-in-action/

Instructors are recommended to download the document and review it outside of Blackboard.
