ITAS tutor information


The Ngarara Willim Centre offers a tutorial assistance program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

Students eligible to receive tutoring may access up to two hours per week per subject during semester and an additional five hours in total during examination preparation breaks.

The program matches tutors to specific students with regards to their discipline specific needs.


To be eligible as an ITAS tutor, you need to be qualified in a discipline, trade or profession. For more information, please refer to the Selection Criteria and Position Description (PDF 26kb, 2p).

Students are also eligible to apply to be ITAS tutors if they have a sound record of academic progress in the courses they propose to tutor and meet certain additional requirements. For more information, please email the ITAS Coordinator.

Candidates also need to demonstrate they are eligible to work within Australia.

Application guidelines

Important notes for tutors or potential tutors:

Tutors cannot be the immediate teacher or lecturer of the student/s proposed for ITAS tutoring.

People who are members of the potential student’s immediate or de facto family cannot be employed as ITAS tutors

People who have a business or employment relationship with students applying for ITAS tutoring cannot be accepted as ITAS tutors for those students.

Tutors must have a current Working with Children Check (or equivalent).
