Course Description

This course describes the knowledge and skills required to foster and implement constructive and beneficial change in a complex organisation. The skills described in this course may be applied across a range of community sector workplace contexts.

This course is delivered and assessed with the following courses - CHCADMIN604B: Manage the finance accounts, resources of an org and CHCORG605B: Manage HR in a community sector organisation

2.4 Maintain currency with information and trends through membership of professional associations, research organisations and networks
2.5 Assess and revise appropriate management and work practices to reflect trends and research findings

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Identify changing requirements, initiate opportunities to change policies and practices, and promote to relevant staff, clients and stakeholders
3.2 Define the nature and scope of required changes, and develop strategies to successfully implement them, including:
• determining budgetary considerations
• appropriate consultation, negotiation and communication
• addressing possible barriers
• promoting effects and benefits of change
• risk assessment
3.3 Identify and implement changes that reflect:
• consideration of a range of alternatives
• appropriate consultation and communication with staff, client and stakeholders
• current accepted good practice
• appropriate levels of planning
• organisation quality assurance processes

Upon successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.


Details of Learning Activities

Essential learning activities will take place during a series of 1 day workshops. You will also be required to undertake independent studies. Some of the learning activities that you will undertake are:
• Analysis of current case studies
• Self- reflection exercises
• Discussion groups relating to theoretical and practice-based topics
• Problem based activities


Reflecting on your own work content is a significant aspect of this course, and you will be given opportunities during the workshops to discuss and think about your practice.


All courses and learning activities will be supported and complemented by RMIT’s learning management tool “blackboard”. You will be required to participate in on line learning activities each month using the discussion board forum.

Assessment will include a written assessment, workplace visit and blackboard discussion


Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed by completion of the following tasks:

  • A research report focusing on change in the sector.
  • A blackboard discussion focusing on a change implemented by you within your organsiation.
