Course Description

This course/modules covers some of the skills required to be an effective language learner. this module develops the skills required to understand and participate in transactional exchanges to obtain infromation or goods and services in community and work contexts.

2.1 Participate effectively in a spoken transaction to obtain information/goods and services

Some errors may occur but these must not interfere with intended meaning.

2.2 Initiate transactional exchange or respond to opening appropriately

2.3 Request information/goods and services using questions or statements, eg wh and yes/no questions

2.4 Explain requirements/needs, eg size, cost, specifications, method of payment

2.5 Respond to requests for information appropriately, eg name, address, telephone number, availability, problem (if necessary)

2.6 Record relevant details, eg price and features of goods, date and time of service

2.7 Use appropriate strategies, eg confirming, checking

2.8 Close transactional exchange or respond to closing appropriately

2.9 Use appropriate vocabulary

2.10 Pronounce key vocabulary and formulaic expressions/utterances with sufficient sound clarity and stress to be intelligible to be interlocutor.

Overview of Assessment

This course is part of a full-time integrated program. Learner performance is assessed against specific criteria that describe a standard of perfomance. the criteria allows the learner to participate activley in the assessment process. The learner is givien as many opportunities as practicable to achieve each outcome.
