Course Description

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to work with and for young people within an ethical, social, political and economic context. This unit may apply to community services work in a range of contexts.

2. Address issues associated with the culture of young people

2.1 In all actions and decisions, take into account the culture of the young person
2.2 Consider cultural sensitivities in communication techniques and adapt style and language to accommodate different cultural values and practices
2.3 Evaluate issues in relation to young person’s culture, family background and interest and modify approach appropriately
2.4 Select activities and resources to promote cross cultural awareness

Details of Learning Activities

Students will participate in classroom discussions, problem solving, role play scenarios and work place simulations. Key concepts will be explored through the investigation of these real world and simulated environments. Learning activities include questionnaires and case studies.

Overview of Assessment

 Assessment in this unit of competency will be through a mix of in-class tasks, case studies, scenarios, workplacement based projects, group work and team work, problem based learning and responses to a range of underpinning knowledge questions as well as the development of an evidence portfolio linked to the unit of competency elements and workplace practice.


Assessment Tasks

A student must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of this particular competency. The assessment tasks are based on the requirements of the essential aspects of evidence as outlined in the unit of competency: CYCYTH301D: Work effectively with young people.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks. 

Student will also be asked to complete an evidence portfolio documenting workplace practice as linked to the unit of competency.
