Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to load and operate drycleaning machines and process to specifications and quality requirements.

1 Identify and follow workplace practices for hazard identification and risk control

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Initiative and enterprise is used to recognise hazards in work
area and report to designated personnel.
1.2 Workplace practices and work instructions for controlling risks are
identified and followed accurately.
1.3 OHS practices and workplace practices for dealing with hazards
are identified and followed.


2 Apply OHS practices to own work

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Employee OHS obligations are identified.
2.2 Concepts of duties of care are identified.
2.3 Problem solving strategies are used to address safety problems, inconsistencies or concerns

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to prepare for dry cleaning, load and operate a dry cleaning machine, monitor machine operation and sort and inspect articles.

Details of Learning Activities

In general your training is contextualised according to the company’s production processes undertaken as a part of the trainees normal work duties.

Your tasks are selected for training and explanation of the task to be undertaken is given by the trainer and the correct procedure discussed. The task is demonstrated by the trainer and underpinning skills and knowledge are developed.

When the trainer is confident you are capable of undertaking the task safely you will then do the task. During this time your work would be monitored by the trainer and questioning and further instruction given.

You will also be given workplace based tasks and activities to complete and practice between visits. Any activities and work performed between visits are reviewed and further training is undertaken accordingly.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will be in the form of observation of your ability to prepare for dry cleaning, load and operate a dry cleaning machine, monitor machine operation and sort and inspect articles and by questioning for underpinning knowledge.

Assessment Tasks

You will be assessed by observation as you use a dry cleaning machine (you can check the performance criteria above for more details of these skills.) You will be questioned for underpinning knowledge for all operations.
