Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to operate finishing equipment, inspect products and fold and prepare finished products for despatch.

1 Operate finishing equipment

Performance Criteria:

1.1Procedures for checking, start up and stopping of finishing equipment are performed
1.2Safety requirements related to machine overrides and protective clothing are followed
1.3Schedules are followed or checked to ensure workplace requirements are met
1.4Product is classified and sorted according to finishing and rework requirements
1.5Products are prepared for finishing in accordance with product requirements
1.6Product is fed into finishing equipment manually or by use of proper aids
1.7Machines are monitored and adjusted in accordance with specified procedures and consistent with operators’ skill level
1.8 Operating faults are identified and reported



2 Inspect product

Performance Criteria:

2.1Products are inspected for conformance to quality standards
2.2Products not meeting quality standards are rejected or returned for rework
2.3Damaged or torn products are identified for repair or return
2.4Rewash, repair or condemned product in deposited in appropriate container
2.5 Records are completed



3 Prepare finished products for dispatch

Performance Criteria:

3.1Product is folded to meet workplace requirements
3.2Products are classified
3.3Storage equipment is checked before products are packed
3.4Products are stored for distribution in allocated area
3.5Finished product records are accurately maintained

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able operate finishing equipment, inspect products and prepare finished products for dispatch.

Details of Learning Activities

In general your training is contextualised according to the company’s production processes undertaken as a part of the trainees normal work duties.

Your tasks are selected for training and explanation of the task to be undertaken is given by the trainer and the correct procedure discussed. The task is demonstrated by the trainer and underpinning skills and knowledge are developed.

When the trainer is confident you are capable of undertaking the task safely you will then do the task. During this time your work would be monitored by the trainer and questioning and further instruction given.

You will also be given workplace based tasks and activities to complete and practice between visits. Any activities and work performed between visits are reviewed and further training is undertaken accordingly.

Teaching Schedule

In general you will be taught by 5 means within a workplace training context as follows:

1. Introduction and overview of course. Basics of skills required and course content 2 hours
2. Use of learning resources and basic skills development 2 hours
3. Complete manuals 4 hours
4. Supervised skill development to competency 20 hours
5. Consolidation of skills and assessment 2 hours

You will practice skills and understanding as a part of your workplace duties between sessions. Activities and work performed between visits are reviewed in the following session and further training is undertaken accordingly.

Assessment will be in the form of observation of your ability to operate finishing equipment, inspect products and prepare finished products for dispatch and by questioning for underpinning knowledge.
