Course Description

This course is designed to increase your awareness of OH&S issues as relevant to the AV industry. You must demonstrate the ability to work safely, identify work hazards and risk management and understand how these issues apply to the employer, employee and the law.

TAFE WEEK 7   
Course Outline: Discussion and introduction of the course guide, resources, assessments and expectations. Definition of OH&S, and Hazards in AV.
Includes: Class exercise, hand-outs, video ‘OH&S in the Music Industry’.   
Homework: Complete the home exercise activity

Class #2
3 April
TAFE WEEK 8   
Core material: Legislation and manual handling (lifting).
Includes: Presentation, discussion and demonstrations and practical exercises.
NB. SSCC meeting at lunchtime. Also next Tuesday 10th is Easter Tuesday, so no class!   
Homework: Look through your home and workplace and identify at least five items of safety equipment in each area.

17 April
TAFE WEEK 9   
Core material and Prac: Using safety equipment and hazard prevention. Lifting, lead rolling, gaffa taping and footing a ladder.
Includes: Discussion, physical work and exertion so please wear appropriate covered footwear and comfortable clothing.
Homework: Purchase some Nashua gaffa tape and practice gaffa taping and lead rolling at home.

Core material: EO Online course.
Includes: Computer Lab work

Assessment Tasks

1.    Participate in practical tasks 20%   
During teacher guided hours in Follow Health and Safety classes

Answer oral questions and participate in practical tasks at various stages to demonstrate understanding of underpinning knowledge.   

2.  Research Assignment  30%
Due Tuesday 1st May TAFE WEEK 11

Produce an individual written research assignment covering relevant occupational health and safety legislation and procedures.

3.    Demonstrate your ability to work safely and follow instruction  50%
Monitored during teacher guided hours throughout 2007 by all teachers

This critical aspect of your assessment will be monitored in relevant practical courses like Repair and Maintain AV Equipment.
