Course Description

This unit addresses the skills and knowledge required to participate in OHS processes to protect workers own health and safety and that of others.

1.1 Follow established safety procedures when conducting work
1.2 Carry out pre-start systems and equipment checks in accordance with workplace procedures

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Identify designated persons for reporting queries and concerns about safety in the workplace
2.2 Identify existing and potential hazards in the workplace, report them to designated persons and record them in accordance with workplace procedures
2.3 Identify and implement workplace procedures and work instructions for controlling risks
2.4 Report emergency incidents and injuries to designated persons

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Contribute to workplace meetings, inspections or other consultative activities

Details of Learning Activities

Discussion, Case Studies and Regulations:

Discussion and Case Studies are presented using Reference materials and Story-telling by members of the group, focusing on issues presented.

Rules, Codes of Conduct, Methods of Reporting, Safety Standards and other, directly related to RMIT, are covered.

Student Services are also covered.

OHS is dealt with specifically in regards to the Internet based, Desktop Designer. Issues relating to these topics are directly covered.

 

Workplace OHS Resource Creation:

Research and Peer Review of Research are Published Online to generate an OHS Resource. This is  based on the Learning Hub, in a series of Blogs. All Media are encouraged and Personal Stories can also be explored.

Overview of Assessment

3 tasks

Students will be tutored with a verbal and/or written evaluation of their progress, within class time.
A final assessment of Competency Achieved or Not Yet Competent will be given at the end of the course when students will submit all completed work.
To be deemed competent students must satisfactorily complete all Learning Elements and related Performance Criteria.


Assessment Tasks

There are THREE Major Tasks that are ALL Compulsory.

If the student completes ALL THREE of the Tasks they will be judged COMPETENT.

Each TASK comprises of:

- 1 Blog entry

- 2 Comments to other Blog entries.

This Unit is NOT GRADED. The only results achievable are:

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.

All assessment tasks are required to be completed to a satisfactory level. If you are unable to complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension.
