This unit describes the skills needed to access and use the Internet within the printing and graphic arts industry.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment Tasks

Task One: Using RMIT Web Email and Blackboard Discussion Board

Set up and use your RMIT email account. Send archived attachments. Unzip files. Virus-scan.  Using Blackboard’s Discussion Board.

  • Read and complete “Task 1.doc” in the Access the Internet 10 folder

Task Two: Instant Messaging and Video Conferencing

  • Read and complete “Task 2.doc” in the Access the Internet 10 folder.

Task Three: Create and publish a website

Topics covered: Uploading a video podcast, blog, slideshow, text and a movie to a website. Downloading files. The difference between viewing webpages offline and online.
  • Read and complete “Task 3.doc” in the Access the Internet 10 folder

Task Four: Terminology etc.

Use a search engine to research internet terminology: 
  • Read and complete “Task 4.doc” in the Access the Internet 10 folder

Task Five: Final Research Project, Presentation and Test.

        Topics covered: Security, Search Engines, Protocols, Internet Connections, History and/or Future.
  • Divide into five groups of four.  Each group select a topic listed in “Task 5.doc” to research. Use search engines and the internet to research topics.
  • Findings will be presented to the class in the final lesson using Powerpoint.  Each presentation should take 10 minutes approx.
  • Each group will submit 3-4 questions covering the topic to become part of a test for the remainder of the group.
