Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required for the trialling and fitting of custom-made footwear.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Client measurements and construction specifications are reviewed to confirm all required information has been provided

2. Conduct trial last and diagnostic fitting

Performance Criteria:

2.1 A trial last fitting is conducted to check last for fit and function
2.2 Modifications are made to last in consultation with client to achieve design and construction specifications
2.3 A mock-up or diagnostic fitting is made in line with specifications
2.4 Diagnostic fitting is evaluated and proposed construction and materials are reviewed

3. Conduct trial fittings

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Custom-made footwear is fitted and client is consulted for further adjustments
3.2 Trial fitting of custom-made footwear is conducted to reflect real-life usage, ease of fitting and compliance with design and production specifications
3.3 Required adjustments are identified in discussion with client

4. Conduct client follow up

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Measurements are taken of foot and footwear and compared to previous findings
4.2 New measurements are taken, if required to confirm or establish required modifications to footwear
4.3 Consultation with client is maintained throughout fitting processes and follow-up acted upon accordingly

Performance Criteria:

5.1 Information relating to client measurements, trial fittings and modifications is recorded
5.2 Specifications are prepared for the development of new footwear or modification of existing footwear

Learning Outcomes


In this unit the learner will develop the required knowledge and skills associated with communication and team work to work with the client to determine fit outcomes and requirements. Planning and organising and problem solving skills are required to resolve fitting problems.


Details of Learning Activities

The course is integrated with LMTFP4002B Custom made Footwear Patterns, LMTFP4003B Prepare, cut and sew custom-made shoe components, LMTFP4004B Assemble custom made Shoe, LMTFP2010B Repair Footwear Product, LMTGN2004B Work in a Team Environment and LMTGN3002B Organise and Plan own Work to form a cluster or learning program in the total development of a pair of custom-made shoes for a client (in this case client must be another class member to ensure that the correct shoe last is available and client is available for fittings as required throughout the program).In this course you will be involved in theoretical and practical tasks.

• You will be required to undertake research outside of regular class times.
You will integrate skills across the design process & manufacturing process of custom-made shoes. With a focus on the use and experimentation of design & development processes which will result in the production of a pair of custom-made shoes which meets the clients expectations and original brief.
 


Teaching Schedule

Week 1 to 15
Student to:-

• Produce one pair of shoes for a client (client is another class member so they will be on hand for fittings and have appropriate lasts etc).

• Negotiate design and production requirements with client including materials to be used. Finalise design and make requirements.

• Produce and check patterns for shoes.

• Produce prototype of shoes.

• Fit shoes to client requirement.

• Amend and adjust as required.

Week 16

• Present finished shoes to client for approval and handover.

Student feedback and presentation of finished shoes at School of fashion & Textiles End of Year Exhibition.

Overview of Assessment

Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary. Assessment will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well.
