Course Description

In this unit you will develop knowledge and skills to perform finishing operations for footwear.  You will be able to plan, organise your processes identify and address production problems.

1.1 Workbench and seating are set up and prepared according to safety standards and OHS practices .
1.2 Components are laid out in correct sequence.

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Finishing operations are performed according to customer specifications.
2.2 Footwear is checked against specifications to ensure correct sizing.
2.3 Faults are identified, reported and returned to appropriate section for repair according to quality standards.
2.4 Production and other records are completed.
2.5 Action is taken according to OHS practices to prevent accidents and to eliminate risks to personal safety.

3.1 Pieces are bundled, stacked and stored or despatched.
3.2 Production faults are recorded.
3.3 Records are completed.

Details of Learning Activities

Integrated learning consisting of theory and practical components will be carried out in practical workshops for the skills and knowledge required to perform footwear finishing operations while producing shoes.


Teaching Schedule

Practical workshops for Perform footwear finishing operations will be conducted in conjunction with other practical based learning. Workshops will including demonstration of techniques and students will be required to demonstrate their practical skills on how to perform footwear finishing activities for each pair of shoes produced for assessment.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.

All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks

Student will demonstrate and answer relevant questions regarding the knowledge and skills required to perform footwear finishing operations to a competent standard.
Student will submit for assessment a minimum of 2 pairs of shoes. Shoes are to be produced to a required industry standard, included in the production of these shoes, student will demonstrate how to perform footwear finishing operations, using safe & efficient methods.
