Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to repair footwear products.

National Element Code & Title:	LMTFP2010B Repair footwear product
Element:	1. Determine requirements
Performance Criteria:	1.1 Footwear product is inspected for areas requiring repair and deviations from job specifications and quality standards . 1.2 Requirements for repair of footwear product are determined and specifications for repair task are documented. 1.3 Repair work is planned according to time and resources available.
Element:	2. Prepare for repair
Performance Criteria:	2.1 Materials required for repair task are assembled and checked for compliance with job specifications. 2.2 Machinery, equipment, tools and materials required for repair task are assembled and checked for readiness for use. 2.3 Any faults in equipment or tools are addressed to ensure readiness for use. 2.4 Footwear product is prepared to ensure readiness for repair.
Element:	3. Undertake repair
Performance Criteria:	3.1 Repair is undertaken to restore footwear to standard specified using a range of techniques and materials and according to OHS practices . 3.2 Footwear product is checked against specifications and appropriate quality standards and adjustments are made as required. 3.3 Once adjustments are made, footwear product is returned to production line, prepared for storage or transferred to appropriate work section, as required. 3.4 Paperwork and documentation is completed.

Learning Outcomes

To successfully complete this unit the student will be required to develop the knowledge and skills associated with planning and organising to repair footwear. Problem solving skills are required to identify repair requirements, ensure work conforms to requirements and identify any production problems. Communication skills are used to refer to and complete required documentation. Self management skills are used to ensure safe use of technology and conformance of own work to quality standards.

Details of Learning Activities

The course is integrated with LMTFP4002B Custom made Footwear Patterns, LMTFP4003B Prepare, cut and sew custom-made shoe components, LMTFP4004B Assemble custom made Shoe, LMTFP4005B Fit Custom made footwear LMTFP2010B, LMTGN2004B Work in a Team Environment and LMTGN3002B Organise and Plan own Work to form a cluster or learning program in the total development of a pair of custom-made shoes for a client (in this case client must be another class member to ensure that the correct shoe last is available and client is available for fittings as required throughout the program).

Integrated learning consisting of theory and practical components relating to the repairing of footwear. Work is carried out in practical workshops, in a simulated workplace environment, to enhance the development of the skills and knowledge required to repair footwear product.

Overview of Assessment

Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary. Assessment will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting may be required as well.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task one:
Practical demonstration by students, that repairs and correct use of machines have been undertaken on their footwear components currently being produced in the program.

Assessment Task two:
Results of repairs and any production issues that need addressing are appropriately recorded.
