Course Description

In this unit you will develop the knowledge and skills required to communicate effectively with young people (aged 12–25) in work roles with a specific focus on young people.

Overview of Assessment

This unit forms a major part of the practical placement component of this qualification. Assessment is undertaken within the work environment. Students are required to assess their own level of competency during their placement period which is then discussed and confirmed with their workplace supervisor and placement coordinator.


Assessment Tasks

During your Practical placements – what were some of the diverse groups of people you came into contact with and how did you demonstrate your ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with them.


Your answer must demonstrate an understanding of engagement and communication techniques, which are effective when working with young people with a diverse range of presenting issues and experiences. This must include knowledge of :

Your work role
Principles of access and equity
Current issues facing young people
