This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to participate in an assessment validation process.

1.1 Discuss and confirm the approach to validation according to defined purposes, context, and relevant assessment system policies and procedures

Details of Learning Activities

This program is offered as an RPL mode (Recognition) rather than a learning and teaching program. However, prior to enrolment candidates are given face-to-face assistance in understanding the requirements of the unit. On enrolment candidates are given assistance in developing a plan for how to undertake the Recognition process and detailed information about the assessment tools.


Teaching Schedule

The Program is available for enrolment throughout the calendar year. Candidates are advised that an assessment of competence needs to occur prior RMIT’s end of year cut-off dates.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment in this unit of competency is determined via a combination of assessment strategies which may include :

responses to knowledge and skill questions based on the candidate’s experience

discussion of the candidate’s experience and current practice

specific evidence-gathering tasks in the form of completed case studies

provision of evidence of qualifications

observation conducted in the workplace

professional conversation conducted face-to-face


Assessment Tasks

Evidence of competence for this Unit may be developed by the candidate using RMIT program tools that include knowledge questions, case study framework and third party verification template to be presented at a professional conversation meeting.
Assessment methods:
A    The case study report is a structured document that allows the candidate to describe a current experience that addresses the requirements for this Unit.
B    The knowledge questions task is for candidates to respond to verbally or in writing to demonstrate their knowledge and experience as required for this Unit.
C    An observation checklist and third party template is available for candidates to seek verification of their workplace experience and submit as evidence to meet the requirements of this unit.
D    The Professional Conversation is the preferred method for candidates to undertake final assessment where the evidence assembled by the candidate is evaluated by the assessor in consultation with the candidate to meet the requirements of this Unit.
