Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to participate in workplace occupational health and safety (OHS) processes to protect workers own health and safety, and that of others. You will gain a fundamental knowledge of OHS to carry out your own work within a defined context.

Details of Learning Activities

Research & Publish for Peer Review OHS Materials.

Participants will research key issues regarding the Occupational Health, Safety & Security of their chosen field, their current location of practice and also more general issues as relevant. 
Research will be carried out via Internet & other Media, or Library resources, and also via Primary Source documentation of stories & case studies from self or peers and colleagues.

A centralised repository of OHS information will be constructed via the establishment of an internal RMIT Blog, via the course OHTH5543C at MyRMIT.

Participants will Create posts and also Critique and Comment upon posts.

Additionally, ’in session’ (in person) discussion and activities will take place to direct towards the key themes of Mind, Body & Technology, and also to instruct how to use the Blog tool.

Participants MAY if they choose produce their own OHS Primary Source material to post online, or otherwise store and distribute in any media, as long as the produced media can also be posted as blog entries.

Text, Audio, Image and Movie making facilities are available on campus and for loan. 


Overview of Assessment

Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment tasks will require you demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills through practical projects and/or written tasks and include BLOG Posting Tasks, and BLOG Comment Tasks.
The assessment tasks are:
1. Online blog 70%
2. Campus safety check 30%

An assessment charter summarises your responsibilities as an RMIT student as well as those of your teachers.
 


Assessment Tasks

TWO major tasks.

Assessment tasks in this course are twofold:

1. The completion of THREE Blog posts in total (1 per theme); Due by end of week 4

2. The Comment upon TWO posts per theme (6 comments in total) on Posts that are by OTHERS in the Program Due by end of week 4.
 

Feedback throughout the course may be text/visual or verbal or a combination of both.

By completing all the tasks to a SATISFACTORY standard, you can achieve a COMPETENT result.

Participation in this course shall be determined as either:

NOT YET COMPETENT (NYC)
Grades which apply to courses delivered in accordance with competency-based assessment.

advised that you participate in the introductory session, then the subsequent activities, in order to engage in the required learning, ensuring the
