Course Description

This unit of competency covers researching, analysing and applying colour for interior decoration projects, including experimentation and application of colour in interior decoration projects in order to achieve desired effects using design tools, such as colour wheels and formulas.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Effect of light is assessed against the impact of colours being proposed for use in certain spaces

Coordination and visual perception of colours is assessed in accordance with the project brief

A range of colour mixing techniques are used to match samples

Light sources are used to mix and throw coloured light onto a range of coloured surfaces to evaluate and record colour effect perceptions

Learning activities will take place in a studio classroom and on-line using industry standard tools and resources. You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.

Assessment for this course will be project based.


Assessment Tasks

ARCH 5206C Research, analyse and apply colour for interior spaces is a clustered unit with ARCH5217CAssessinterior light and recommend light fittings

Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:
EXAMPLES
- Practical tasks and a major project
- direct observation including exploration of and experimentation with techniques
- written and/or oral questioning and discussion to assess knowledge and understanding
- completion of an art journal and/or portfolio including personal reflection and feedback
- direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence…
 
Feedback throughout the course may be written, verbal or a combination of both
To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.

Task 1 - Colour Visual Diary with progressive presentation of prescribed exercises 
Exercises that cover Foundation colour & the more sophisticated approach to colour required by decorators 

Task 2 - Major Project - Client Presentation
Application of colour & lighting theories experienced through the diary exercises to an interior scenario
