Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to market goods and services internationally in line with the organisation’s marketing plan and marketing strategy for a specified international target market.

It applies to individuals with a broad knowledge of marketing who contribute well-developed skills in creating solutions to unpredictable problems through analysis and evaluation of information from a variety of sources. They provide leadership and guidance to others and have limited responsibility for the output of others.

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of the requirements in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks, for example:

  • direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
  • review of final printed documents
  • demonstration of techniques
  • observation of presentations
  • oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of software applications

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Performance Evidence

You must provide evidence of the ability to:

  • implement TWO culturally appropriate marketing and promotional activities
  • monitor market performance
  • identify and make improvements to marketing activities and strategies.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements effectively, you must:

  • identify and describe key provisions of relevant legislation, codes of practice and national standards that affect business operations
  • discuss organisational client relationship strategy
  • analyse marketing concepts, principles and strategies
  • analyse evaluation and monitoring principles and strategies.

You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Assessment Tasks

This course is co-delivered and co-assessed with MKTG7894C Research International Markets. Students must complete all three assessmnt tasks to be deemed competent.

Assessment Task 1 – Research the market

Group or Individual: Individual

Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment is for the student to demonstrate the skills needed to use various resources to research an international market for its business potential. This work will be used to develop the strategies discussed in Assessment Two.

Requirements:
Students are to select a product or service, and an international market from a list provided, identify appropriate resources to research the category in that market and write a report that addresses various criteria as listed in the detailed brief. The report should not exceed 200 words, excluding tables, graphs and visuals.
This work will be used to develop the strategies discussed in Assessment Two.

Assessment Task 2 – A Launch Strategy

Group or Individual: Group, maximum four students..

Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment is for students to apply their knowledge of strategies and process to a ‘live’ product or service launching into a real market. It also gives students the experience of working in a team, as occurs in business.
Requirements:
Students are to work as a team to develop the strategies needed to launch their chosen product or service into their chosen market. This means the group will meet and decide which of the participants’ Assessment One will be the basis of this assessment.
The areas for which strategies will be detailed in the Cover Sheet, and a final document of between 3000 and 4000 words is required.
Students are also required to keep a journal of their individual and the group’s activity during this assessment process, and upload that individually. A format for this journal will be provided.

Assessment Task 3 – The Pitch

Date and time due: Week 14-15
Group or Individual: Group, as before

Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment is for students to learn and demonstrate how to adapt their strategic document into a business presentation that has a commercial objective.

Requirements:
The group is to prepare a presentation of their strategies (and research where relevant) for the hypothetical situation of a trade event in the target country hosted by Austrade. The audience for the presentation includes local business executives from whatever area of commercial activity the new venture requires. The group is to make a convincing case for the local businesses to be interested in their proposition.
 


Assessment Matrix

Marking Guide (competency):
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is based on current industry needs and the focus on preparing you for the workplace. Because VET courses are informed by practical application of knowledge and skills, they are based on a system known as ‘competency based training’ (CBT). So when you are assessed in VET it is about whether you are competent to do the job, as well as having a firm grasp on the knowledge and skills required to do that job, as opposed to traditional curriculum based education settings that are often based on knowledge retention.

You need to demonstrate you are competent in each element of the unit of competency you are studying.
You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you whether you are competent or not and how well you are performing. Once competent in all elements of the unit you receive a competency grading.

Marking Guide (Grading)
After achieving competency we then grade your performance in the unit; this gives you the opportunity to have the level of your performance formally recognized against industry standards and employability skills.

You will be provided with an assessment matrix in the assessments area of the unit blackboard shell. Generally, your grading will be assessed against how well you:
• Perform the activities as required by the learning elements of this unit of competency.
• Demonstrate the required knowledge for this unit of competency.
• Execute the required skills for this unit of competency.
• Demonstrate your employability skills through contribution to learning activities related to this assessment, timeliness, use of technology and teamwork.

Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions (VET Programs):
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a Course Assessment Task you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission. The highest grade you will receive if your resubmission is successful is “CAG”.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
