Course Description

In this module the student explores what is currently understood about the most appropriate knowledge and skills for working successfully with young people in groups.


Learning Outcomes


Topics covered in this unit are:

1.  Working with young people
2.  Getting going in the community
3.  Worker roles and methods
4.  Moving to the next step - social planning


Details of Learning Activities

Over the seven weeks allocated to this module, students will  undertake the self-help questions and actitivies as they work their way.  And essay/project will be  the culmination of their studies.  Studnets will work through four units for this module.


Teaching Schedule

By teh end of teh  unit students will be able to do the following:

  • recognise several useful models for analysiing human behaviour and individual differences
  • identify with the nature of group dynamics and the roles adopted by individuals in groups
  • acknowledge own preferred roles within group situations
  • work effectively as a group member
  • take on a variety of roles in a group, including leadership and advocacy
  • use communtiy development techniques
  • create effective planning strategies and develop community profiles, social community and personal plans
  • promote participation of young women and men in community activitities
