Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to identify the policies and philosophies of potential clients including, commercial galleries, commissioning agencies and art & craft management committees.
Arts Business Practice is a compulsory course within the second year of the program. The course provides a vocational focus on the arts industry and how a self employed visual artist relates to this industry.

1. Recognise and examine the relationship between artists and their market place
2. Writing a curriculum vitae and submitting an exhibition proposal
3. Source funding and make applications and submissions for grants and funding
4. Describe the relationship between the artist and various types of galleries



Details of Learning Activities

This course will  provide you with the research and business planning skills to initiate and develop yourself as a self employed artist. Classes are run over a 18 week semester and you will engage in lectures, class discussions, individual tuition to achieve outlined learning outcomes.


Teaching Schedule

Classes are run over a 18 week semester. In the first 10 weeks of the course you will attend class lectures. In weeks 10-18 you will work independently to complete assessment taks and attend scheduled tutorials.
