Course Description

In this course students develop the expression of ideas through the application of an extended range of printmaking processes, and at an increasingly sophisticated level.

Students will be encouraged to explore the possibilities of printmaking through a lateral approach to the subject, students will be instructed in digital (Photoshop) and traditional technologies . Students will also be introduced to the idea of the exchange portfolio print. Emphasis will be placed on the students becoming more independent in their studio practice, as well as developing critical evaluation skills through participation in a group tutorial and regular individual tutorials. A book binding workshop will be held during the semester.

Understanding of occupational health and safety aspects of Printmaking and safe studio practice, understanding of historical and contemporary contexts in which printed images have, been/are currently developed and viewed.
Understanding of presentation issues in a public arena.
Development of screen-printing techniques.
Understanding of the role of the book as a means of presenting information/conceptual concerns.
Use of an extended range of materials and techniques in the production of original prints.
Development of critical self-evaluation and articulation skills.
Integration of historical and contemporary influences and philosophical concerns in the development of printed images.
Application of new and emerging technology in the production of original prints.
