Course Description

This course provides participants with the theoretical and practical skills required to explore and apply photographic/imaging practices, materials and techniques to incorporate personal philosophy and content within photographs/images.  This course focuses on a digital art practice, with camera use and lighting techniques incorporated into studio outcomes.

Learning Outcomes


1. Use appropriate functions of a digital or analogue SLR camera.
3. Understand and apply a range of approaches to lighting and the use of natural light.
4. Apply a range of materials, techniques and processes used in the production of photographic digital images.
5. Analyse historical, contemporary and technological influences on photography.


Details of Learning Activities

There will be a variety of teaching activities which includes:

Workshops with practical demonstrations, group tutorials, individual tutorials, lectures and excursion. There will also be time dedicated to studio work  in a self directed  and supervised capacity.

Week 1 -  Orientation Week
Week 2 -  Introduction to the course
Week 3 - 8 - Project 1 - Extended Digital Practice
Week 9 - Review of Project  1 (with tutorial feedback)

Week 10 - Introduction to self directed project
Week 11 - 16 - Project 2 - Self Directed project Work ( with embedded demonstrations, tutorials and studio time)
Week 17 - Folio Preparation
Week 18 - Moderation and Assessment
