Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge involved in operating a small business in the art/design industry.

Learning Outcomes
1. Define small business in Australia and the way it is affected by changes in the economy.
2. Outline the characteristics that need to be considered in exploring a small business opportunity.
3. Specify the knowledge abilities and personal characteristics required to start and operate a successful small business.
4. Describe an appropriate structure to use and its legal and protective means, support and maintenance.
5. Describe the financial procedures required to start up, monitor and maintain a small business.
6. Describe how to establish a business plan, set goals and use appropriate time management strategies.
Overview of Assessment
The major assessment task will consist of a research report investigating a local small enterprise.
