Course Description
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop an individual approach to the design and production of a small piece of contemporary furniture. This course is specifically written to cater for the needs of designer-makers in developing prototypes.

Learning Outcomes
1. Investigate and apply the elements and principles of design in response to a given brief to design a small item of contemporary furniture.
2. Investigate and apply a range of 3D design methodologies in response to a given brief to design a small item of contemporary furniture in conjunction with 3D Design Studies.
3. Make a small item of contemporary furniture from timber using appropriate joinery techniques.
4. Use appropriate adhesives and finishing materials in completing the production of a small item of contemporary furniture.
Overview of Assessment
This course is assessed through:
• The completion of a small item of contemporary furniture to a craftsman standard
• The presentation of a design folio of development work and concepts including developmental drawings.
