Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to work as a self-employed furniture designer-maker.

1. Describe the major markets and outlets for furnishings within Australia
2. Describe viable market opportunities for designer-makers in Australia
3. Evaluate the range of promotional and presentation techniques available to Australian designer-makers
4. Discuss the funding support available to Australian designer-makers
5. Describe the major features of laws affecting the manufacture, sale and distribution of Australian furnishings
6. Develop a business plan appropriate to intended business activities
7. Organise the exhibition of furnishing pieces

• Production of Business plan for proposed furniture operation
• End of year Exhibition organisation and operation
• Report on mentor operation and opportunities identified during year.
