Course Description

This course covers skills and knowledge required to establish standards for the design and production of organisational documents and to manage document design and production processes to ensure agreed standards are met. This course is co-assessed with Plan or Review Administration Systems BUSM9956C.

Learning Outcomes


Learning activities will include online and class-based exercises, demonstration and observation in order to develop competency, including the underpinning skills and knowledge required for this competency.


Details of Learning Activities

Students will study this competency by theory in the class room, online classes and laboratory sessions, through experience in their Practical Placement and through prescribed exercises and assessment work. These concepts will also be explored through the investigation of appropriate real world and simulated environments.

Practical Placement
The Practical Placement program provides students with workplace learning that prepares students for the workforce. It is a component of many courses, where students can gather evidence of their competency related to the National Competency Standards for Business Administration. Students involved in the Practical Placement Program will benefit from the workplace experience and will be able to use their experience as evidence.

The student will work in the organisation for the agreed time to learn skills and perform administrative duties. The duties that the student performs in the workplace must be related to business administration.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate competency in all elements of this course to be deemed competent.  Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of competency in a flexible manner.  Assessments will incorporate a variety of methods:  online and class exercises, homework, the development of a range of complex standard documentation and a test.  Due to the complex nature of this competency, students may be required to demonstrate competency in any element more than once.  Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.  In addition, formative feedback will be provided to students throughout the course.


Assessment Tasks

Work Plan Part A (10%) - Week 12
The Work Plan will co-assessed with Part B Work Plan for unit Plan or review administration systems. It will clearly describe the current document design at the students’ Practical Placement or workplace, the development, management and processing of the documents. Students will refer to the work plan marking guide and criteria sheet The Learning Hub. To obtain full grade allocated for this assessment students will need to satisfy the criterion for both Part A and Part B.

Document Management Strategy (25%) Week14
Students will create a portfolio of six templates with advanced technical functions and will be required to submit these documents on request electronically to the teacher for review of demonstrated technological skills and feedback. The final six templates must be submitted by the due date in both hard and soft copy formats.

Grading
A pass in an assessment piece will result in a grade for the student. Where a pass is achieved competency for that assessment is given. Where a pass is not achieved in any assessment piece a NYC (Not Yet Competent) grade will be given. Competency MUST be achieved for each element of competency within a competency standard for a pass grade (or higher grade) to be given. Where competency for all elements of competency is not achieved, an overall NN grade will result.

Employability Skills
This course/competency includes the employability skills listed below which are assessable under the Business Services Training Package.

In order to be able to effectively demonstrate the required employability skills during the course, students should participate and aim to attend punctually. Students are required to contribute to 80% plus of the required classes. Please note that employability skills are assessed across the entire program.

Employability skills are a core component of the competency and if a student is unable to effectively demonstrate these skills within the competency, a mark of NYC (Not Yet Competent) will be given for the course.
