Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required for the construction of blocks to make patterns for use in garment production processes within an enterprise.

a. Toiles are accurately constructed from the block.

c. Accuracy of adjusted toiles is evaluated in relation to specifications, body movement and comfort.

Teaching Schedule

Unit 1 weeks 1 – 2:
Revision of grading method X/Y, Grading Specification, Introduction to computer grading system

Unit 2 weeks 3 – 10:
Grading various garment categories using computer system

Unit 3 weeks 11 – 16:
Introduction to marker making including lecture, demonstrations and practical manual exercises.
Completing markers using the computer marker making software.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will include: Progressive assessments/class exercises, assignment/project, simulated workplace activities
Tasks that have not been authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary to demonstrate that you can:
1. Develop grading specifications
2. Input pattern data into the computer system
3. Retrieve and process data
4. Identify program functions relevant to pattern grading
5. Input grade values/Apply grade values to pattern shapes
6. Recognise & rectify input grading faults
7. Obtain hard copies to check grading
8. Prepare graded patterns for marker making
9. Develop marker making specifications
10. Input marker making data into computer system
11. Lay markers
12. Obtain hard copies to check complete
