Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to apply quality standards to work operations in a TCF enterprise.

PLANNED LEARNING EXPERIENCES
1. Quality assurance: practical activities relating to the role of quality standards: exploration of quality issues related to clothing manufacture
2. Maintaining quality standard: identification of individual and group responsibilities in maintaining quality standards
3. Interpretation of work instructions and specifications through examination of examples of quality standards
4. Types of faults; recognising deviations from quality standards by means of demonstrations and research activities
5. Methods of inspection: simulations or industry visits
6. Giving and receiving information on quality. Activities related to the identification of improvements and making recommendations. Examples of oral or written report

Performance Criteria:

a. Completed work is continuously checked against workplace standards relevant to the operation being undertaken.
b. An understanding is demonstrated of how the work activities and completed work relate to the next production process or processes and to the final appearance of the TCF products concerned.
c. Faulty pieces or final products are identified and isolated.
d. Where required, the faults and any identified causes are recorded and/or reported to the supervisor concerned in accordance with workplace procedures.

LMTQAGN01A/02 Assess quality of received component parts

Performance Criteria:

a. Received materials, component parts or final products are continuously checked against workplace standards and specifications for such things as size, colour, fabric, alignment and finish.
b. An understanding is demonstrated of how the received materials or component parts relate to the current operation and how they contribute to the final appearance of the TCF product.
c. Faulty material or component parts related to the operator's work are identified and isolated.
d. Where required, the faults and any identified causes are recorded and/or reported to the supervisor concerned in accordance with workplace procedures.
e. Causes of any identified faults are identified and corrective action taken in accordance with workplace procedures.

a. Materials, component parts or products are measured, as required, using the appropriate measuring instruments in accordance with workplace procedures.

Performance Criteria:

a. Basic information on the quality and other indicators of production performance is recorded in accordance with workplace procedures.

LMTQAGN01A/05 Investigate causes of quality deviations

Performance Criteria:

a. Causes of deviations from specified quality standards for materials, component parts or final products are investigated and reported, as required, using the appropriate measuring techniques in accordance with workplace procedures.
Suitable preventative action is recommended based on workplace quality standards and the identified causes of deviations from specified quality standards of materials, component parts or final products.

Overview of Assessment

Learners need to demonstrate by means of a range of assessment tasks (such as written or oral tests and activities) that they can:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of how work activities in clothing production effect each other in relation to the quality of the final product.
2. Correctly follow instructions to produce work according to given quality specifications
3. Carry out inspections on own work and the work of others by checking work against specifications, samples or established quality standards.
4. Locate, name and note down types of faults found on garments
5. Investigate and report on the causes of faults by completing appropriate report work
6. Recommend suitable action to fix faults according to given procedures.
