Through the development of these competencies, you gain the skills needed to manage your work and learning while responding to a range of project briefs. You research the work of other writers and publishers and apply your findings to your own project through the development of a concept into a written work or a publishing project.
Course Description
This unit covers the knowledge and skills required to research and experiment with writing and editing techniques for different media. It develops the skills required use industry standard software to desktop-publish text and images to a professional standard.

Web-based material via electronic blackboard, weekly work sheets, and handouts are made available as required.
Students will require a USB flash drive on which to backup their work. A capacity of at least 2 GB is recommended.
In second semester, students will be required to take their major InDesign assessment item to a professional printing shop for colour printing at their own expense.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises designed to develop your skills in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Adobe Bridge. You are also assessed through oral presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights to practical desktop publishing projects.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.
Semester 1
1. Adobe Bridge/Photoshop (IOM) assessment - Due Week 1 (5%)
2. Magazine, 4 page Multi columned layout with manipulated graphics, layering, sizing and colouring manipulation - Due Week 3 (10%)
