Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to originate the concept for a piece of written or publishing work and to conduct critical discourse around that concept.

Teaching Schedule
Originate concept for own work and conduct critical discourse is delivered and assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing specialisations. For example, you develop the skills for originating a concept for a desk-top publishing project, an article for a newspaper, a novel, an editing project etc. You also learn to engage in critical discussion of your own and other people’s concepts with an aim to further developing those concepts.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment includes the completion of a written exercise and demonstration of competency through your chosen writing specialisations.
Assessment Tasks
Originate concept for own work and conduct critical discourse is assessed through a preliminary exercise specific to this competency. This exercise will be e-mailed to you by the unit coordinator on February 27 with directions on how to submit the assessment. The assessment is due by April 12.
Originate concept for own work and conduct critical discourse is also assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing specialisations, by your writing teachers . Successful completion of the assessment will demonstrate competency in originating and discussing concepts for a range of writing and editing projects See Refine Writing and Editing course guides for assessment details.
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete all assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.
