Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to research and analyse the history and theory of your chosen writing specialisation. By critically analysing your findings, you learn to use theory and the practice of others to inform your own writing.

Teaching Schedule
Research and critically analyse history and theory to inform artistic practice, is delivered and assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing specialisations. For example, you research the history and theory behind writing different forms of fiction and non-fiction, behind writing for different audiences, behind the integration of text and image etc. You also learn to link your research and knowledge to your own artistic practice.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment includes the completion of a written exercise and demonstration of competency through your chosen writing specialisations.
Assessment Tasks
Research and critically analyse history and theory to inform artistic practice, is assessed firstly through a preliminary exercise specific to the competency. This exercise will be e-mailed to you by the unit coordinator with directions on how to submit the assessment. The assessment is due by April 11.
Research and critically analyse history and theory to inform artistic practice,is also assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing specialisations, by your writing teachers . Successful completion of the assessment will demonstrate competency in researching the history and theory behind different areas of writing and publishing, and applying this knowledge to range of writing and editing projects. To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete all assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.
