Course Description

This course covers the fundamental skills needed for employment and the application of industry and company procedures, guidelines, policies and standards in a daily work context within the financial services industry. 

It requires the application of an understanding of the industry and the way it operates to the work carried out by employees.  It involves demonstration of a working knowledge of company policy and procedures required to undertake day to day tasks.  It is the base unit on which the other skills required for work in the financial services industry are built.  It may be applied in all sectors of the industry.

Overview of Assessment

To achieve competency in this unit, you must be able to demonstrate the following.

• knowledge of products and services provided by the financial services sector.
• knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry codes of practice applicable to the workplace.
• ability to analyse, evaluate and organise relevant information.
• ability to plan work taking into account any constraints and available resources.
• ability to identify and evaluate professional development opportunities.

Competence in this unit may be assessed over a period of time in order to ensure consistency of performance in the work environment.

For valid and reliable assessment of this unit, evidence will be gathered through a range of methods to indicate consistent performance. 
Assessment will include observation of processes and procedures, oral and/or written questioning on underpinning knowledge and skills and other methods as required. 
This unit may be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment.
