Course Description
This course covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a straightforward project or a section of a larger project such as a short film. The emphasis is on the skills and knowledge required to successfully undertake screen content project based work of a fixed duration in the screen and digital media industries.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course you will have experienced and developed the skills required to independently produce screen and media content in the screen and media industries.
Details of Learning Activities
You will participate in a range of class workshops and on location projects that will help equip you with the skills to successfully manage a film production to industry standard.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment tasks are practical and directly relevant to the production of screen and media content.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive feedback on all assessment and where indicated, you will receive a grade. Graded assessment tasks are equally weighted and will determine your final result for this course.
You will each write/produce/direct a fictional film of five to seven minutes in duration and complete post-production and delivery within the scheduled time allocated to you. The class filming schedule has been posted on Blackboard. A range of assessments will be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. You will participate in a range of class workshops and on location productions that will help equip you with the skills to manage a film production using industry procedures.
You are required to crew on other students’ films within your shooting group once in all the key positions of 1st Assistant Director, Camera, and Sound. Each of these positions is assessable.

You cannot use students from other shooting groups and/or classes and non-RMIT personnel (and this includes former RMIT students) to crew in the key roles of writer/director/producer, 1st Assistant Director, Camera, and Sound. 

You will demonstrate:
- a professional approach to advising and maintaining lines of communication with all parties involved in the production of Undertake Project Work.
- a professional approach to time and organisational management
- and initiate and organise production meetings with relevant student colleagues
Assessments will be divided between ungraded and graded assessments.
Each of the following assessment tasks must be completed by each student in the process of production.
ASSESSMENT TASK 1 (ungraded):
Draft script: set out in industry accepted format.
Due date: four weeks before first day of shooting.
ASSESSMENT TASK 2 (graded):
Folio of complete pre-production documentation for your short film project.

Documents are:
- Evidence of production management (minutes.)
- Final draft of screenplay
- Shooting plan (either marked up screenplay or shotlist or storyboard)
- Shooting schedule - created by your 1st AD
- Cast and crew lists
- Completed and signed copies of the actor release forms
- Location list
- Completed and signed copies of location permission requests and approved permits
- Budget
- Safety analysis and risk management plan/s
- Signed hazard form/s
- Call sheets - created by your 1st AD
- other relevant documentation as required
Due date: one week (7 days) before the first day of shooting.

Self assessment of your performance as a producer/director
Evaluation of your 1st AD’s performance on your shoot
