Course Description

This unit of competency is delivered in the local class Interactive 2. The course covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design the interaction for interactive media products.

1 Identify project requirements.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Discuss concepts with relevant personnel to ensure that design briefs are fully understood
1.2.Discuss with relevant personnel the purpose of the interactive media product
1.3.Identify technical parameters of appropriate interactive media products, including format and delivery platform
1.4.Identify target audience and user characteristics

2 Generate ideas for interaction.

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Research the delivery platform and analyse its potential for human-computer interaction
2.2 Generate a range of ideas to broaden and deepen the range of user experiences
2.3 Continuously evaluate new ideas and incorporate them as appropriate
2.4 Consult relevant personnel to ensure that all possible options are considered
2.5 Select a systematic approach that will meet creative, production and technical requirements specified in briefs

3 Draft interaction design specifications

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Draft interaction design specifications for all interactive sequences
3.2 Select sequences as prototypes and demonstrate prototype interactions using a wire frame
3.3 Conduct usability test using appropriate testing techniques
3.4 Use prototype to identify logical inconsistencies in design and to measure levels of user engagement
3.5Document all feedback and incorporate into design specifications

4.1 Re-evaluate interactions on the basis of prototype feedback
4.2 Discuss and confirm additional requirements or modifications to the interaction design with relevant personnel

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, homework and in class exercises, practical problem solving exercises and practical tests. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
