Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to participate in the development of production planning.

1.1 Projected requirements regarding stock supplies, product quantities, quality and delivery schedules are confirmed.
1.2 Identified issues and problems concerning projected requirements are resolved in collaboration with relevant personnel.
1.3 Requirements for implementation of organisational systems are determined.

2.1 Specific information relating to production capacity is obtained and confirmed.
2.2 Details of production line requirements regarding batch or run sizes and other relevant information are gathered and interpreted for use in production plan preparation.
2.3 Resources, supply requirements, availability of machines and personnel is identified and confirmed.

3.1 Specific requirements for meetings are confirmed.

Learning Outcomes


In this unit you will be required to develop skills associated with communication to gather, interpret and discuss production data and information and participate in meetings. Planning and organising, initiative and enterprise and problem solving are also required in planning and selecting processes, procedures or outcomes with others and to identify and resolve production issues. This unit also requires team skills to work with others in determining and confirming production requirements.

• Different types of Apparel Companies
• Research Flow Charts

WEEKS 3 – 6 plus 6 hours outside class
• Explore Various Production Processes in Current Practise
• Industry Visit and Report on Fashion Week
• Research and investigate JIT, VAM, TQM, Quick Response or other Current Production Processes

WEEKS 7 – 10 plus 5 hours outside class
• Interpret & Analyse Data for a given Production Schedule using information from sales orders
• Interpret & Produce a Specification using Excel software for a required product
• Interpret & Produce a Costing Sheet ,Production Order and BOM using Excel software for a required product


WEEKS 11 – 16 plus 9 hours outside class
• Introduce Major Project Assignment
• Overview of Product. Prepare, Plan and Produce a Product
• Organise Teams to Develop Production Plan
• Continue with Project Addressing Product Specifications, Quantities, Machinery Used, Fabric Performance/Characteristics

Overview of Assessment

Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.


As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.


PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.

1. Produce Flow Chart for a nominated apparel item - 10%
2. Research actual Production Processes (Industry interview) - 30%
3. Produce a Production Pack (schedule, BOM, and costing etc.) - 30%
4. Participate in Major Production Planning Project and reflect on your Learning (Folio evidence monitoring performance, etc.) - 30%
