This unit covers the skills and knowledge to create a pattern from a block to meet design and fit specifications of the customer

Learning Outcomes
On sucessful completion of this course you will develop the required skills and knowledge as it applies to the development of a pattern from an existing block for an individual size and to meet the styling requirements of the customer; as well as developing the of skills associated with communication, problem solving and planning and organising to interpret design specifications, select procedures and tools and create a pattern. Communication and numeracy skills are used to interpret designs and develop and document pattern specifications. Self management skills are used to test the pattern and ensure conformance to quality standards.
Details of Learning Activities
The course is integrated with LMTFD4001B Apply Design Studio Process to form a a cluster or learning program called Design Studio 1
In this course you will be involved in theoretical and practical tasks.
• You will be required to undertake research outside of regular class times.
• You will integrate skills across the design process and focus on the use and experimentation of design studio processes which will result in the production of a fashion design product which meets a specified brief.
Teaching Schedule
WEEK 1 - 5
• Introduction to course requirements, attendance, assessment etc.
• Generic Jacket and sampler construction for Project 1
• Self-directed design & research for Project 2.
• Time management strategies.
4 hours out of class time to be spent researching complex pattern making techniques for Project 2.
WEEK 5
Complete Project 1(generic jacket and sampler) to demonstrate required skill and competency before commencement of Project 2.
Submit Research/Design Development for Project 2
WEEKS 6 – 15
o Commence patternmaking and toiling for Project 2.
o Cut final production patterns in paper.
o Cut the final garments ready for production.
o Tailored garments construction.
o Finalise garments and related project work for assessment as per original Design Brief Criteria.
6 hours out of class time to be spent finalising patterns onto paper.
WEEK 10 - Submit Final patterns on paper with pattern record/specification sheet week 10 for pre- assessment
WEEK 10 - 14 - Industry Partner Briefing and Reviews
WEEK 16 - • Submit and present final Tailored garments & Design specification sheet and Range boards for assessment and feedback.

Overview of Assessment
Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.
This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.
As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.
