Course Description

This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to use materials in accordance with appropriate Occupational Health and Safety procedure and operate safely in a workplace environment

1.1 Comply with health, safety and security procedures in accordance with organisational policy, relevant
legislation, insurance requirements and safety plan where appropriate  
1.2 Identify and promptly report breaches of health, safety and security procedures  
1.3 Work safely and ensure that all work activities are undertaken in a safe manner and do not present a
hazard to fellow workers or the public

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the legal requirement to work in accordance with health, safety and security procedures

You are expected to manage your learning and undertake an appropriate amount of out-of-class independent study and research and industry guests speak about professional practice.


Details of Learning Activities

Students participate in lectures, group discussions and practical application of Occupational health and Safety standards in a simulated work environment.

Week 5-16: practical demonstration and application in each studio area.
Week 17-18: Assessment

Overview of Assessment

Students’ ability to apply to follow health safety and security procedures will be assessed by:

  • Direct observation of the candidate explaining workplace safety or emergency procedures  to others
  • Direct observation of the candidate demonstrating safe working practices for particular job roles.
Assessment of this unit requires access to:
  • relevant occupational health and safety acts,
  • regulations and codes of practice
  • relevant protective equipment.
