Course Description

This course is designed to extend and reinforce the relationship between ideas, source information and the manipulation of the materials in the production of sculpture. You will be encouraged to extend their language, terminology and visual elements of sculpture and to understand adaptive properties and characteristics of materials.


Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

It is highly recommended that this unit be assessed in conjunction with the following units:

  • CUVCOR03B Develop, refine and communicate concept for own work
  • CUVCOR09B Select and apply drawing techniques and media to represent and communicate the concept
  • CUVCOR12B Review history and theory for application to artistic practice.

Depending on the context, combined assessment and/or training with a range of other units would also be appropriate, e.g.:
  • CUVCRS08B Document the work progress
  • CUVCRS14B Prepare, store and maintain finished work.

  • Analyse the properties and characteristics of materials and their adaptive potential towards the production of sculpture
  • Apply advanced techniques and processes used in the production of sculpture
  • Expand and use the vocabulary and phraseology of sculpture.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of essential underpinning knowledge, and might include:

  • Direct observation of sculptural work in progress
  • Questioning and discussion of your intentions
  • Verbal and written reports
  • Review of portfolios of evidence
Assessment will be conducted by a group of teaching staff who are industry personnel.
