Course Description

This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to use materials in accordance with appropriate Occupational Health and Safety procedure and operate safely in a workplace environment

Learning Outcomes


On completion of this course you will be able to:

• follow established procedures and understanding of the implications of disregarding those procedures
• understand the legal requirement to work in accordance with health, safety and security procedures


Details of Learning Activities

Students participate in lectures, group discussions and practical application of Occupational health and Safety standards in a simulated work environment.

Week 5-16: practical demonstration and application in each studio area.

Overview of Assessment

Students’ ability to apply to follow health safety and security procedures will be assessed by:

• direct observation of the candidate explaining workplace safety or emergency procedures  to others
• direct observation of the candidate demonstrating safe working practices for particular job roles
