Course Description

In this course you will explore the knowledge and skills required to work with individuals, groups and the community to identify issues and develop cooperative processes to facilitiate change.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Use appropriate interpersonal skills with individuals and groups to ensure that their story is heard and understood and to test that there is common understanding

Details of Learning Activities

You will be involved in learning activities in an evening workshop. Activities will include group discussions and activities. Reflection on your own work context is a significant aspect of the course and you will be given opportunities to discuss and think about your own practice.

Where the teacher has used a powerpoint presentation during the workshop, these resources and other learning activities and handouts will be made available to enroled students post the workshop via electronic methods.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this unit requires you to complete written responses to questions represented in part B of the project portfolio. You are also required to obtain a 3rd party testimony which identifies activities you have undertaken. Both the written responses and 3rd party record require you to demonstrate the following knowledge and application of skills in relation to: Working with group members to identify common and shared issues.  Working with the group to enhance their capacity to work together productively .Supporting the group to establish cooperative processes to effectively undertake collective action. Developing networks that benefit community members.  Reflecting with the group to review group practice                                                                                                      


Assessment Tasks

There are 2 specific tasks which assess this unit.  
Task 1: You will be required to provide short answer written responses to questions which constitue part of Community Development Project  Portfolio - Part B. These questions will relate to:                                                           How you  work effectively with individualsin addition to stakeholders and key members of a specific community group.                                                                                                                                                                                                 How you identify the issues confronting individuals in your community and support your community group to develop the skills that they need to create solutions for  problem situations  in a collaborative manner.                                   How you have reflected on the strengths and areas for improvement in your practice in supporting individuals to develop collaborative solutions to their collective problems.
Task 2: You will be required to provide a testimony from your workplace supervisor or volunteer coordinator, stating your ability to consult with community in identifying the issues that confront them, your ability to support your community to work effectively to provide solutions to their shared issues and finally the ability to reflect upon the strengths and areas to improve your practice in supporting your group.
