1.1 Scope of sustainability policy is defined
This course delivers the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement a workplace sustainability policy, including the modification of the policy to suit changed circumstances.
Details of Learning Activities
A range of learning activities are planned for this course including self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.
The self-paced activities will be delivered through various technology platforms and include your contribution to tutorial activities and interactive sessions.
The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated/real workplace environment.
We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including in-class exercises, problem-solving exercises, assignments, group or individual projects, presentations and written or practical tests, as well as homework activities.
Other activities may be workplace-based or simulate work practices. These may include the production of technical requirements documents, direct observation of workplace practices and the presentation of a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio may include documents, photographs, video and/or audio files.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. Students will be provided with feedback throughout the course to check their progress.

Students are required to complete 3 tasks. You must successfully complete all 3 tasks to be deemed competent in this unit.
Assessment Task 1 – Environmental Auditing Case Study

Group or Individual: This is an individual assignment to be completed by the student.
Purpose: An environmental audit is an assessment of the nature and extent of harm (or risk of harm) to the environment posed by an industrial process or activity, waste, substance or noise. Many organisations are now using environmental audit as a tool to assist in assessing the condition of the environment they manage (or can influence) so they can reduce environmental risks and demonstrate their accountability and compliance.
Requirements: You are required to undertake an audit of a warehouse. You will be given a case study to work from, and will be required to work through various specific aspects of the audit.
Assessment Task 2 – Sustainability policy assessment

Date and time due: Week 14
Group and Individual: This is a group work assignment which will be worked on in class time as much as possible. Individual submissions are required.
Purpose: Growing concerns about the environment are causing changes to the way that organisations operate and are leading to new practices and technologies aimed at reducing an enterprise’s carbon footprint. As a manager or small business owner in the T&L industry it is important to keep up to date with these changes and to understand how to develop and implement sustainable work practices in your organisation.
Requirements: To demonstrate that you have the required skills and knowledge to effectively implement workplace policy and procedures for sustainability you will need to complete a detailed Sustainability Policy document for a transport logistics organisation, which is entering a new international market. You will need to give consideration to local government policies and practices. A template for the policy document is provided.
Assessment Task 3 – Sustainability Policy Assessment Presentation

Date and time due: Week 15
Group or Individual: This is a group assessment
Purpose: A policy is of limited value unless it has appropriate implementation. This includes working with stakeholders, training staff and communicating the policy.
Requirements: Your presentation should last approximately 10 Minutes and is to be completed in class. It should generally cover the material in assessment 2.
Marking Guide (competency):
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is based on current industry needs and the focus on preparing you for the workplace. Because VET courses are informed by practical application of knowledge and skills, they are based on a system known as ‘competency based training’ (CBT). So when you are assessed in VET it is about whether you are competent to do the job, as well as having a firm grasp on the knowledge and skills required to do that job, as opposed to traditional curriculum based education settings that are often based on knowledge retention.
You need to demonstrate you are competent in each element of the unit of competency you are studying.
You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you whether you are competent or not and how well you are performing. Once competent in all elements of the unit you receive a competency grading.

You are required to meet the following criteria for all assessments. Failure to do so may result in you being deemed not-yet-competent:
• Submit all assessment tasks online through blackboard, and include the RMIT e-submission declaration (see below).
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
• Retain a copy of your assessment tasks.
When submitting work online, you need to include the cover sheet supplied by your teacher. This includes the following declaration:

If you are found to be Not Yet Competent (NYC) in an Assessment Task you will be allowed one resubmission to demonstrate competence. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission. The highest grade you will receive if your resubmission is successful is “CAG”.
Students are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates. If a student is to be prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside their control, they may apply in advance to the teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days. To be eligible for an extension, you must lodge the extension form availabile at the following link with your teacher: http://www.rmit.edu.au/students/assessment/extension
Where an extension of greater than seven days is needed, the student must apply for special consideration. Applications for special consideration must be submitted no later than two working days after the assessment task deadline or scheduled examination. Final Date for All Assessments
No assessment tasks or resubmissions will be accepted after 5pm Friday, week 16.
