Regardless of the mode of delivery, represent a guide to the relative teaching time and student effort required to successfully achieve a particular competency/module. This may include not only scheduled classes or workplace visits but also the amount of effort required to undertake, evaluate and complete all assessment requirements, including any non-classroom activities.

HLTIN301C Comply with infection control policies and procedures
HLTWHS200A Participate in WHS processes

Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to transfer oral records and mount models on an articulator in the reference determined by the clinician. You will mount the registration rims constructed in previous exercises on different types of articulators as required for the type of dental appliance you are constructing - eg. full denture, partial denture. Once mounted you will transfer the oral records from the wax registration rim to the plaster model.
All procedures are carried out in accordance with work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under a normal range of work conditions.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

  1. Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self reflection of each exercise
  2. Practical exam - Articulation of F/F registration rims (previously constructed in ’Construct Registration Rims’ practical exam) on a fixed movement articulator within the time limit of 1 hour.
  3. Theory exam - pass mark 60%

Assessment Tasks

Practical COMPETENCY:

  1. Articulation of, Maxillary and Mandibular Full Registration Rims competency, on a movable articulator and transfer all records

Assessment guidelines for the practical competency will be issued and will be the same as the practical exercises, as outlined in the practical exercise book.

Theoretical examination

Articulate Models and Transfer Records

One element of the 3 hour exam (divided into competencies) PASS MARK 60%, If ’NYC’ (Not Yet Competent) result is achieved the student will be provided with detailed feedback of the shortcomings and given a further opportunity to sit a secondary exam.

If a grade of 40% or less is achieved the student will NOT be granted an opportunity to sit a secondary exam and the student will be required to re-enroll in the unit which will be incurr fees.
