Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to safeguard their health and safety, and the health and safety of others in the workplace.
The course will introduce the participant to the legislative requirements of employers and employees and to the preventative nature of workplace health and safety.

Learning Outcomes


1. Explain the legal framework that exists in Australia for the maintenance of occupational health and safety.
2. Explain the preventative nature of workplace health and safety.
3. Conduct a workplace hazard audit to identify hazards in the workplace.
4. Apply Basic First aid procedures (DRABC).


Details of Learning Activities

This course aims to provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to safeguard theft health and safety and the health and safety of others in the workplace at a paraprofessional level. The course will introduce the participants to the legislative requirements of employers and employees and to the preventative nature of workplace health and safety.


Teaching Schedule

This course involves the delivery of 4 Learning Outcomes over 5 weeks using the following format:

Week 1 Classroom, Essendon Campus The Australian legal frame work

Week 2 Classroom, Essendon Campus Workplace health and safety

Week 3 Classroom, Essendon Campus Hazards in the workplace

Week 4 Classroom, Essendon Campus First Aid

Week 5 Assess & Course review, Essendon campus
