Overview of Assessment

Assessment takes the form of six practice-based assignments involving creative response to a brief. Students will design and execute digital animation for a range of different multimedia platforms.

Assessment Tasks

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 01<o:p></o:p>

Letter bounce pencil test<o:p></o:p>

Use the first letter of you name to bounce, squash and stretch. Do it very roughly in pencil. Scan it in as grey scale and put it into the computer program. Use between 10 to 12 drawings, think for a way that you might turn it into a cycle. Use tracing paper or post-it notes.

<o:p> </o:p>

This will be presented as a rough “pencil test”. A pencil test is the rough version that an animator does to make sure the movement is working well.

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 02<o:p></o:p>

Post–it Note Morph     <o:p></o:p>

Create a morphing animation using 30 – 40 post-it note pages. Coloured in Photoshop, constructed in Flash with music and sound effects.

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 03<o:p></o:p>

Character Designs<o:p></o:p>

Devise appropriate characters for animation.

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 04<o:p></o:p>

Walk cycle assignment<o:p></o:p>

Part 1: a pencil test of the walk cycle

Part 2: final walk cycle that includes coloured walk cycle, with background music and sound effects.

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 05<o:p></o:p>

Lip synch and audio analysis<o:p></o:p>

Class based exercise. Getting a character to talk.

<o:p> </o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 06<o:p></o:p>

Lip synch <o:p></o:p>

Your character must speak a minimum on 7 words. The animation must include appropriate background.

<o:p> </o:p>

Assignment 07<o:p></o:p>

Movement assignment <o:p></o:p>

Your character must move. Include appropriate background and audio.
