Course Description

This unit covers the development of basic keyboard skills using touch typing techniques.

Workspace, furniture and equipment are adjusted to suit the ergonomic requirements of the user.

Work organisation meets oraganisational and occupational health and safety for computer operation.


Learning Outcomes


The expectations are that students will achieve a speed of 45 wpm with 98% accuracy using correct technique. This is consistent with the level of responsibility of an entry-level position in the workplace.


Details of Learning Activities

Students will complete practical exercises in class to help build their speed and accuracy whilst meeting occupational health and safety guidelines.

Overview of Assessment

Students will complete speed, accuracy and technique tests under supervision.


Assessment Tasks

Students will be given four (4) documents to proofread and correct. Element of competency: Check accuracy.

Students will be given five (5) speed tests using Typingmaster. Element of competency: Identify and develop keyboard skills and Use safe work practices.
