Course Description
This course covers business issues that affect the artist and the arts industry, and personal professional practice.
The course includes talks, lectures and presentations relating to: the marketplace and its relevance to artists; identifying resources and financial assistance for artists; identifying and discussing aspects of running a small arts industry organization; and developing an awareness of legal issues for artists.

Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the marketplace and its relevance to the artist
2. Identify sources of financial assistance to artists
3. Identify and complete project proposals
4. Select and evaluate contracts and agreements relevant to specific arts situations and complete a standard contract
5. Identify and discuss aspects of organising and running a small arts industry business
Details of Learning Activities
Students will collect research, reflections, and appropriate notes pertinent to Professional Practice. This will be formed as a document Portfolio that provides evidence that the student has engaged in the learning and addressed the requirements within the Course. This will demonstrate their professional and personal experiences, and undertakings in relation to Professional Practice.
Students will undertake individual research and attend six formal lectures.

Assessment Tasks
The Portfolio submitted for assessment will contain residual information, personal research and experiences, as well as notes demonstrating an understanding of professional learning gleaned through lectures and discussions.
For assessment students will also submit an example of a professional gallery proposal, supported by evidence of research into appropriate exhibition spaces for their final exhibition presentation. The gallery proposal will include a short exhibition rational adapted from their Project document, a professional curriculum vitae and professionally documented visual images of the student’s work (presented digitally).
