There are no prerequisties for this course, hoever students will undertake this study in the second year of the Diploma and are advised to be concurrently  enrolled in Work in the TCF Sector EMPL5588C 

Course Description

The unit applies the planning, organising and coordination of production operations.
Work involves working largely independently and being accountable for own results, including carrying out assigned tasks, coordinating processes and setting and working to deadlines.

Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of this unit Students will demonstrate the ability to plan and communicate ideas effectively
The project also enables students to manage their time effectively  to use visual display tools such as mood boards, design folios and story boards to present design concepts  and produce a textile range

Student must prepare all relevant documentation for ordering material and preparing s design specifications


Details of Learning Activities

Will include lectures, tutorials, on-line activities, workshops where students are challenged to reflect and debate on different value positions, concepts and issues.

You will be required to participate in case study learning, problem solving activities, self-reflection and discussion.

Activities will encourage both individual and group based learning responsibilities

You will be required to attend off campus industry visits and to guest speakers from varied TCF industries

 Introduction to Term 1’s objectives.

Warm-up exercise: Effective personal time management considerations
SMART goals/objectives discussed – personal level leads to management level
7 Habits of effective people.

Week 2:

Guest Speaker: Lyndon Medina. Topic: If my timing is right.

Discussion: Teams and motivation - What is a team? - Stages of team development - What are motivators? - What motivates me? Give example – what teams are needed. Group vs team. Industry relies on team
What is Communication - Perceptions, Barriers, Workplace communication, Learning styles, Working styles
Discussion: Gantt charts for Project & production time management come up with a Gantt chart for managing time for project production chart/weekly planner


Week 3:

Overview of the TCF industry – websites of major players.
TFIA team player
What do you think about industry now? Where do you see yourself within that?

Brainstorm what makes up the TCF industry. Students elect speaker.
Student activity in small groups – research local, national, international small, medium, large textile manufacturers. Report back to class.

Overview of Assessment

Students will undertake a fully integrated Textile Design project brief which will require them to undertake market research , develop a range of designs, present a folio and then put designs into production developing prototype concepts.

Workplans, diaries,production schedules and technical files can be  submitted as evidence of panning and organisation.

The project will require students to be actively involved in group discussions during sessions and to undertake project work in a professional manner.

They will also prepare and production plan and be expected to attend regular meeting with supervisors to establish work process and planning .

To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency.
Assessment tasks have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner.
Students will be awarded a grade only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period on the first assessment attempt.
Units assessed as ‘not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ‘competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but are not eligible for grading.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher.
