1. Prepare client for procedure
1.1 Interpret prescription if referred from another source
2. Perform check of try-in prosthesis prior to insertion
2.1 Decontaminate the try-in prosthesis according to infection control guidelines
3. Fit and evaluate try-in prosthesis
4. Alter try-in prosthesis
4.1 Make changes to the prosthesis in accordance with the evaluation at the try-in stage
On completion of this unit you will have the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and modify the try-in fitting of a removable dental prosthesis prior to its completion.
Clients may be partialy dentate or edentulous.

Overview of Assessment
Clinical demonstration. Patient records.
Your assessment will be graded with either a Px(Satisfactory) or NYC(Not Satisfactory) according to the assessment guidelines in accordance with the training package elements and essential skills.
Your assessments tasks will consist of :
Word processed patient record report for every patient treated (Case Histories) A complete journal of experience in relation to outcomes of simulated practical training and clinical experience placement - All documents due no later than

Perform elements and performance criteria of competence as designated for this unit of competence to the required standard consistently across a range of variables during clinical placement. Report on try-in clinical experiences and procedures, materials, instruments and equipment.
Case Study – presentation patient
Complete journal of experience in relation to outcomes of simulated practical training and clinical experience placement

Non completion or non-submission of compulsory tasks:
Failure to complete any or all of the compulsory tasks listed above will prevent the student from achieving a CA (competency achieved) result for unit HLTDP605D Evaluate a removable prosthesis at the try-in stage. . This will result in the student not completing the unit successfully. NYC (not yet competent) will be recorded and re enrolment will be required to continue the unit/program. Fees will be incurred. Please note: A second opportunity for assessment will not be granted unless the student has applied for and been granted special consideration as per RMIT assessment policy.
