RMIT CIB Student Chapter

CIB (Conseil International du Bâtiment) is an international organization with the objectives to stimulate and facilitate international cooperation and information exchange between governmental research institutes in the building and construction sector, with an emphasis on those institutes engaged in technical fields of research. Find out more about CIB.

The CIB Board’s CIB Student Chapter Committee recently approved the formation of a CIB Student Chapter at the School of Property, Construction and Project Management, RMIT University, Australia.

The RMIT CIB Student Chapter seeks to provide a support network for postgraduate and undergraduate students in the dissemination and sharing of research interests, skills, experiences and capabilities. It also serves as a platform to showcase the research identity, work and activities of its members and to engage with the wider academic community and industry.

The Student Chapter is administered by an Executive Committee. The election of Committee Members is on an annual basis. The Student Chapter runs regular monthly meetings, which are chaired by the President and minuted by the Secretary.

Chapter objectives

The objectives of the RMIT CIB Student Chapter regime are to:

  • provide a means by which students who will be the future leaders of building research and innovation are able to engage with and be inspired by current leading edge building research world-wide, and to appreciate at first hand the value of international exchange and cooperation, and
  • introduce those students to the advantages of CIB membership so that they are convinced of the value of maintaining membership of CIB in their future professional research and innovation careers

A CIB Student Chapter may expect to obtain for itself and its members the following benefits that would not otherwise be obtained:

  • The distinction of recognition, on a systematic basis, by CIB, the world’s foremost supporter of building research and innovation.
  • Eligibility to apply for the CIB Sebestyen Future Leaders Award to finance a Chapter proposal, ideally involving more than one Student Chapter. The intent of the Award is to foster collaboration between Chapters, between faculty staff and students, and between faculty staff and students and experienced senior researchers and research managers in the CIB worldwide community.
  • Facilitation of clusters of Student Chapters to make collaboration on a national, international, or regional basis easier to achieve.

Membership

Membership of the RMIT Student Chapter is free and open to all postgraduate and undergraduate students (Honours level) involved with research-based activities. Members must:

  • be currently enrolled in a postgraduate/undergraduate (Hons) degree and have an interest in research areas related to the built environment.
  • actively participate in the Student Chapter’s events and activities

Research students are encouraged to join the Chapter as it provides a means by which students who will be future leaders of building research and innovation are able to engage with and be inspired by current leading edge building research world-wide and to appreciate firsthand the value of international exchange and cooperation.

Two staff members of RMIT University act as Student Chapter Advisors including Dr Eric Too and Dr Rebecca Yang.
